Society rapidly changed from agriculture based to industrial based. People were surrounded by machines, people felt that the world itself is a machine. This was a dominant way of trying to understand the world at the end of the 19th century. It has a competitor, things that couldn"t be explained by mechanics such as electricity, energy etc. Alongside mechincs, energy was often in the equation. people were confused about whether to transform all aspects to energy or matter. Science of energetics,, people discover the electron in 1895. Materialists love this because they feel electron is most basic element, energitiscsts instead claim that electrons are states of energy. The development of the electric lightbulb, thomas eddison: born in usa in 1847, Eddison dropped out of school quite early, his mother took over his schooling. She taught him how to read and experiment, she was one of the foremost influences on his life.
