Computer hobbyists have a higher level of skill, knowledge, and ability with computers that is true of the everyday average person. Computer hobbyists were lead users of personal computing technology and helped update machines before they entered consumer market. Hobbyists during this time were used to dealing with large-scale computers. During the 1970s, there were very few industries that used computers on a regular basis including corporations and governments. They were interested in advancing the hardware and technology. They also saw computers as instruments of social change; to make the world a better place. If more people could access computer technology, it could end/eradicate inequality, poverty, gender discrimination, racial discrimination.
