The organization as an environment for the team: Strategic viewpoint: org. contains resources a team needs to accomplish goals. Political viewpoint: org. is a set of stakeholders (groups or indiv. ) who have a stake or interest in the teams activities. Cultural viewpoint: org. has a shared basic assumption what a good team process is, what a good team leader is, and how teams should preform. Effective team is one that manages all 3 aspects of its organizational environment ( strategic, cultural, political) Bad things happen to good teams because they are too inwardly focused, lacking in flexibility. The x-team was outside in look on the team. Today there are flatter organizational structures, interdependence of task and teams, constantly revised information and increasing complexity- which requires a networked approach (x-teams) Come companies have established incentives to support x-teams and their high performance levels, while other times they appear spontaneously.
