It tries to bring the problem to consciousness so that the patient can gain insight and re-experience painful emotion. Techniques: 1)free associations, patien rambles about what ever to mind, helps bring consciousness repress memories, 2) dream analysis. Transference: occurs when a patient express their feelings toward the analyst in a way that the patient actually feels towards significant other. Behavior therapy any therapy using learing principles.
