Document Summary

Discussion questions: what can you recall about language from the last class, language is localized in the left hemisphere of the brain. Language comprehension is controlled by wernicke"s area and language production occurs in broca"s area. What is the nature of language: language is a form of communication whether it be through writing or speech. Language has many structures to it including: phoneme, morpheme, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. All these components are crucial for the composition of language: how do you think language is regular , discrete and arbitrary , language can be regular because it is formal and expressed through regular expression. Language is discrete because it is a combination of discrete units (phenomes, words etc. ) rather than a continuous modulation. Therefore, it"s a tendency to see objects as only working in a particular way preventing an individual for seeing the full range of uses for an object.
