Dialogue starts with corruption, crito bribing the guard to see socrates. Ironic b/c socrates was charged with corrupting the youth. Main subject of their conversation is respect for the law and both know that crito has just broken a law. Suggests that athenians don"t care as much about the law as they claim. Socrates is sleeping peacefully when crito enters, not troubled by sentence. They argue over whether socrates should escape before ship returns from delos and he is executed. Crito says that if socrates does not escape. It will reflect badly on his friends b/c it will seem like they did not try to help. He will be helping those who have done him wrong. Crito cares about reputation, relationships w/ others, has us/them mentality against socrates" accusers, thinks saving socrates" life is the most important. Socrates thinks that doing what is morally right is more important than saving his life. Tells crito not to listen to the majority.
