Fathers controlled sons, left land to oldest son, other sons went west. Realignment- when a party system fades and a new one is born ex. Before election the parties were democratic-republican and federalist. War of 1812 was the end of the federalists. 4 candidates- william crawford, andrew jackson, john quincy adams, henry clay. Made a new political party system- democrats and whigs, lasted till civil war. Democratic party was the negative government= less government. Whig party was the positive government= more government. Geographical expression for where black people lived. Mainly in south were tobacco, corn, rice, indigo, cotton and sugar cane grew. In nc it was concentrated on the coastal region. Different jobs, women- cook, housemaid, field hand, men- field hand, horse trainer, carpenter, driver (best job) Field hands worked 12-14 hours a day in all conditions. Slave owners- some were kind and fair, some weren"t.
