Document Summary

Every individual or item in the frame has equal chance of being selected. Can be with replacement or without replacement depending on the context/problem, whether or not you can select an item many times, if you can, you do with replacement. Often obtained with help of random number generator or via software. Selecting a srs using a random number table. Use random number generator on excel, =randbetween(1,850) to randomly select a number between 1 and 850. Match number to item and include in sample. Divided frame of n individuals into groups of k individuals, k=n/n. Randomly select one individual from 1st group. Divide frame into strata according to an important characteristic. Srs selected from each strata frame, sample sizes proportional to size of each strata (for proportional representation) Samples from subgroups combined into one sample. Population divided into several clusters, each representative of the population. Or items can be chosen from cluster using another sampling technique.
