Early identification goal to promote language development. If loss is not identified by 6 months, children are more likely to have significant language delays. Conditions increasing chance of language levels similar to hearing children. Diagnosed at birth and receive amplification by age 3 months. Receive interventions focused on listening and speaking by 6 months. Receive cochlear implant by 18 months, if needed. The overarching goal of all interventions for pediatric hearing loss is the development of healthy, socially and emotionally balanced individuals who are able to integrate fully into society and lead productive lives. Many children with mild to severe hearing loss are fitted with amplification devices. Data from the gallaudet research institute show that 59% of students and youth with hearing loss use hearing aids from instructional purposes. Electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear.
