CSE 120 Lecture Ten Notes - Tri State & Open Collector Buffers
Buffer
Also known as buffer amplifier
Provides electrical impedance from one circuit to another
Signal is buffered from load currents

Tri State Buffer
Similar to buffer
Adds additional “enable” input that controls primary input passed to output or not
If “enable” inputs true
Tri State Buffer behaves like a normal buffer
If “enable” inputs false
Tri State Buffer passes a High Impedance (or Hi-Z) signal
Effectively disconnects output from signal
Often connected to a bus
Allows for multiple signals to travel along the same connection
Truth tables are also used for these buffers
