Iliad and odyssey don"t seem like they were written by the same author: war (iliad) vs. travel (odyssey, primarily high-up warriors (iliad) vs. common people (odyssey) The return trips from trojan wars are turned into epic poems: most don"t end well, little ajax is struck by lightning, agamemnon"s wife is having an affair with his cousin. Agamemnon killed his daughter to life the curse that was preventing him from going to war. As revenge, his wife plans to kill him and does. Agamemnon"s son avenges his death by killing agamemnon"s wife and cousin. Proem (beginning lines: memory is a muse that is being spoken to, opening greek word translates to man (but sort of high-up, odysseus is meant to suffer. Athena is odysseus" patron which makes sense since she is the goddess of trickery. Poseidon"s wrath is the reason for odysseus" long return. Xenia is different in this book: normal xenia.
