PR 605 Lecture Notes - Lecture 47: Ingratiation, Sociogram, Organizational Chart
Document Summary
Social network analysis: a tool for assessing resources. Social networking analysis is a tool you can use to assess the resources that are exchanges and dependencies within an organization. Social networking analysis looks at patterns of communication that exist between members of an organization to see how information flows between each individual. Social networks are connections between individuals sharing professional interests. Within this, each person or group is referred to as a node, and the linked between those nodes are referred to as ties. When nodes frequently exchange resources or communicate, they have strong ties. Other nodes not engaged in direct communication with each other get flows of resources through intermediary nodes. This means that some nodes serve as brokers between nodes that wouldn"t be connected otherwise. A sociogram is a graphical illusion of the associations amongst people in a social network. Sociograms function like an informal type of an organizational chart.
