Although individual differences play a role, certain situations and certain cultures promote politics. There are changes happening to the existing pattern of resources. When resources are reduced, some individuals might engage in political actions as a means of trying to safeguard the things they have. Any changes that occur, especially the changes that imply relocation of resources in an organization, are likely to create more conflict and increase politicking. Cultures characterized by these will also create breeding grounds for politicking: Political activities aren"t required in a person"s formal role for their job, so that means the more unclear a role is, the more employees will be able to engage in political activity that goes unnoticed. Unclearness of roles means that the employees behaviors aren"t clear. This means that there are less limits to the scope and functions of the political actions of the employee.
