Social psychologists (norman triplet: gave us social facilitation, looked at speed records of cyclist and saw that you are faster when you are in a group of people, improvement in performance just by the presence of other people) Use scientific methods to study how people think about, influence, and relate to one another. Study the social influences that explain why the same person will act differently in different situations. Explain someone"s behavior by crediting either the situation or the person"s disposition- internal: character trait, stable over time. When analyzing others" behavior, to overestimate the influence of personal traits and underestimate the effects of the situation. Attitudes are feelings influenced by beliefs, that predispose reactions to objects, people, and events. Ex: we may feel dislike for a person because we think they are mean and as a result we may be unfriendly towards them.
