Before 1877, delivery of most goods sent to indian agencies, agency schools & indian. Department hospitals & to fulfill treaty provisions was awarded to non-native freight contractors. Native american teamsters outperformed non-native teamsters & freight contractors who monopolized indian department freighting. American indians drove teams of oxen, harvested & transported logs & timber, delivered.
