Members of the pro-life camp vary in their beliefs, but they basically agree that a majority of abortions should be illegal. Some believe in a complete ban, while others think that abortions should be allowed in cases of rape or incest. Their premise is that since life starts at conception, abortion is akin to murder of unborn babies. In cases of pregnancies as a result of rape, abortion punishes the innocent unborn child, when it is the perpetrator of the crime that should be held responsible. They argue that there are methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy such as contraception or even abstinence. Lastly, they often assert that taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortions if certain taxpayers are morally opposed to abortions. The pro-choice camp usually consists of liberals and democrats. The basis of their arguments is the woman"s right to choose and right to control her body.
