PSYCH 150 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Conscientiousness, Neuroticism
Document Summary
Threat versus neutral related words as stimuli. They can"t shift attention away from the task-irrelevant habitual response. Measured trait anxiety and attentional control with self-report surveys. Geometric shapes preceded by one of two kinds of spatial cues. Down red arrow = difficult, lose points if too slow. Up blue arrow = easy, gain points if fast enough. Cued trials (arrow and block show up at the same place on the screen) Uncued trials (arrow and block are on opposite sides of the screen) High anxious people will have a harder time disengaging from the red arrow, slower response. High anxious with low ec slower than low anxious. High anxious with high ec as fast as low anxious. It will not make much of a difference. Highly anxious people have difficulty disengaging attention away from threat cues only if they lack executive control.
