Document Summary

Crash course nero transmitters & brain (the chemical mind- crash course psyc #3) Electroencephalogram (eeg)- electrodes on scalp measure waves of electrical activity. Position emission tomography (pet)- visual of location of radioactive glucose when brain performs. Magnetic resonance imaging (mri)- pictures of brain anatomy with magnetic field. Functional mri- successive mri"s compared to show brain activity as evidence by increased o2 in blood flow. Lesions (typically post mortem)- rare surgically induced to alter the way that part of the brain works. Hindbrain (back & base)- one of the first areas to develop. Damage to this area may cause death or needed life support. Medulla (brain stem)- heartbeat, breathing & reflexes; crossover point. Pons (swollen area on the medulla)- sleep & arousal movement & coordination; nonverbal learning & memory, time orientation. Cerebellum (area above/behind the medulla and pons)- voluntary.
