Carton watkins - photographed yosemite, hired to take photographs. Brought pictures of yosemite to a popular audience. Watkins was a bad businessman, went bankrupt. Made stereocards - cheaper, postcard like, came in sets. Made cloud studies, then put clouds in his empty skies through composite photography. Much faster, and allowed for high speed photography. Muybridge - zoopraxiscope - projected disk that looked like animation. Jacob riis - immigrant photographer, photographed lower class living conditions. Hand painted magic lantern slide - able to be projected. Made photos by photochrome process, added color in a process similar to lithography. Tried to reproduce maxwell"s process on paper. Invented in france, used dyed potato grains to produce colored images. Startup of photoclubs, wanted to promote themselves as art. Steiglitz - printing of autochrome still had not been figured out yet. Tried to use color in an expressive movement. Lumi re is an early color photography process.
