Mechanisms for long term peace; were tired of bloodshed: woodrow wilson: he was the president that oversaw us from regional power to global power. Previously, they only dealt with problems that explicitly involved them; wilson wanted them to be the center powers. He founded the league of nations to put america in the center of global politics. He was willing to back up foreign policy with military might. He saw democracy as the solution to peace, sought to promote democracy to all countries. He didn"t want the us to get involved in conflict without being prepared, so he (in 1916) went to. Congress to build a bigger navy (looking for leverage against british empire), strengthens the infrastructure of us (increasing army, training police more intensely), and attempted to mediate conflicts (failed almost every time). They joined the war in 1917, and were a critical part in the end result of the war.
