The kurds in the north of iraq used the opportunity to rise against iraq, and the city of halabja is entirely gassed and 5,000 of their own citizens are killed. The systematic genocide anfal campaign: 1986-1989: in the final stretch of the war and about 180,000 kurds are killed by iraqis.
