Communication- process, human, shared, symbolic a process/an action something you do a piece of communication is an object something you can have ex: email, communicates ideas. Communication is process, communications are pieces of communication. Sender/encoder idea < > receiver/decoder channel (medium being used for communication) feedback (return in response) field of experience- we always have some degree of overlap. The size of the overlap determines how much communication you can have. The more communication you have with someone, the more things in common you find. Human/animal communication debate human/animal communication doesn"t count because we don"t have the shared experience of being human and we can"t really understand them enough. Reasons for choosing human limitation: easier more reliable findings provides boundaries more professionally practical.
