Was part of the government, to him the purpose of the newspaper was to be the force of the government. All newspaper in the colonial era were published with the line that said published by authority. First great american newspaper: the new-england courant (1722), published without the authority line. Benjamin was treated as an apprentice, knew that if he wanted his work in print he would have to do it around his brother. James loved it and benjamin would have to feign surprise. The courant pissed off boston"s upper class, but entertained everyone else. Didn"t do it alone, had a partner named samuel keimer. Pennsylvania gazette was the first paper to incorporate illustrations. Zenger publishes a paper called the new york weekly journal. Though not much is known about him, he is commonly known as a superhero to journalists. Lewis morris and james alexander approach zenger about publishing this newspaper, write using pseudonyms.
