The medium is the message: a brief history of writing. The reason behind writing is always to communicate ideas in your head to an audience through words. Gutenberg: (1436) invented the printing press using movable, replaceable wood letters, made literacy a priority. Plato thought writing would destroy memory and the written form could be misunderstood. Socrates favored learning face-to-face rather than over impersonal writing. Aristotle believed writing was a good way to communicate as a means to truth. Believed honesty and clarity is paramount in writing: first to articulate the concept of audience . Web space is non linear, scalable and navigable, a space people move through rather than pages read in a particular order. Fundamentals of good writing: be brief- writing should be clear and concise. Readers need little reason not to read further, especially on the web. Verb tenses and the singularity or plurality of objects should not change within a sentence: be aware- avoid.
