Traditional & indigenous societies: traditional societies: given an existing set of challenges, what is proven to succeed becomes the basis of life. People conform to the traditional culture because this allows societies to function as they had in previous generations: indigenous societies: collection of diverse societies. Societies whose ways of life were uniquely adapted to a particular physical environment. Language can be used as an indicator of societies, 500 years ago there were more than 10,000 i(cid:374)dige(cid:374)ous s(cid:373)all, lo(cid:272)al so(cid:272)ieties toda(cid:455) the(cid:396)e a(cid:396)e (cid:448)e(cid:396)(cid:455) fe(cid:449) truly indigenous societies. Types (processes) of social change (alterations in structure or behaviors in a given society over time: internal: discovery & invention, reform & revolution, discovery & invention: often work together. Affects the way society works because it introduces a new item into society: reform & revolution: changes that are consciously and intentionally taken to address a particular system using the existing system and changes (reform).
