Communicate via electrical impulses called action potentials/spikes = the language of the brain. Also through chemical transmission at synapses, which is connect neurons into big networks (takes the longest) What the neurons say (patterns of the spikes/influenced by strength of synapses) The cell is in a bag = has an outside-the cell membrane. Cell membrane-made of phosphate and a pair of lipids = phospholipid molecule. The phosphate loves water (hydrophilic), the lipids hates water (hydrophobic) This membrane closes up everything around it = becomes a great bag which you can poke things through. Protein channels inserted into the cell membrane (tubes w a pore through the middle) made of amino acids. Nuclei = where the chromosomes are/machinery to run the cell. Mitochondria = battery of the cell/power-pack of the cell. Er = endoplasmic reticulum = nissl substance = transport system in the cell. Soma = cell body (where the basic work of the cell is done/action of the nucleus)
