Document Summary

Wanted to study the most minimal neural circuit. Saw if you tickled the paw of the dog the dog will have a reflex withdrawal. Motor circuit: two types of neurons connected by a synapse. He expected that the reflex would be all of none and would be characterized by fast conduction. Instead, it took several hundred milliseconds to get a response and the response was graded (reflex movement depended on amount of stimulation administered/could increase or decrease in size) Temporal summation = if he tickled one spot he would get a little reflex, but if he tickled that spot a lot in great succession he would get a bigger response [additive effect] graded. Spatial summation = if he tickled one spot he would get a reflex, but if he tickled two spots at the same time he would get a larger reflex [spaces summate] graded.
