Lifespan development- lifespan development is the field of study that examines patterns of growth, change, and stability in behavior that occurs throughout the entire lifespan. Physical development: developed involving the body"s physical makeup. Socioemotional development: how interactions with others and social relationships grow, change, and remain stable. Critical period: a period where an experience must occur in order for a behavior to develop normally. Sensitive period: period where organisms are susceptible to certain stimuli in their environment and absence of those stimuli does not produce irreversible consequences. Nature = refers to traits, abilities, and capacities that are inherited from one"s parents. Developmental changes are the products of a complex interplay between nature and nurture. A theory is a broad, organized explanation and prediction concerning a phenomenon. 5 major theoretical perspectives used in life-span development: Psychodynamic perspective: states that behavior is motivated by inner forces and conflicts that are generally beyond people"s awareness and control.
