Document Summary

Secondary contact is when the species from allopatric communities somehow get reintroduced to each other. Acts to keep species that are separate separate. Example of fruit flies in hawaii where individuals of sympatric species are unwilling to mate with each other. However individuals of allopatric species are willing to mate with each other. Reinforcement maintains separate species where the flies in the same location recognize themselves as different species and reject the other species in the location because these species would have lower fitness. Hybrids may have fitness that are equal to both parents. However it is only in the hybrid zones. The hybrid zone is the area that is the border between two different species and in the hybrid zone they mate with each other because the hybrid has the same amount of fitness as hybrids. Hybrids are common but only in narrow geographic area.
