Stress: mental and physical response and adaptation to our bodies to real or perceived change and challenges. Stressor: real or perceived physical, social, or psychological event or stimulus that causes our bodies to react to stress. Acute stress: short term physiological response to an immediate or perceived threat. Body"s response: more blood from brain; senses sharpen / pupils dilate / heart rate increases / etc. Chronic stress: ongoing state of physiological arousal in response to ongoing or numerous perceived threats. Often times leads to physiological diseases / ailments (i. e. depression, anxiety, irritability, diabetes, common cold) Traumatic stress: physiological and mental response that occurs for a prolonged period of time after a major stressful event in which one may be seriously hurt or witnessed horrible things. More than of women report feeling stressed most of the time. 90% of adults feel stressed at least one to two times a week. Can have negative effect on one"s health.
