Document Summary

Contemporary psychology now says nature and nurture interact. Study of bulling in children and emotional problems. Bullying does have later life problems, but also tested children for sert: serotonin transporter gene (sert) Kids who were not bullied at all, sert did not affect anything. However kids who were bullied had statistically significant differences with emotional problems: short short and being bullied had a lot more problems than the long long gene. Gene: slice of dna that makes a particular protein. Alleles: a particular version of that gene. 50-50 chance to get a specific allele from each parent. More likely in men than women: x chromosomes has more genes than the y chromosome. Hemophilia: a women has 2 x chromosomes, so does not really get effected by hemophilia: males get hemophilia because their y chromosome does not have a corresponding gene to cancel it out. Epigenetics: the reversible development of traits by factors that influence how genes perform.
