PSY 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Autonomic Nervous System, Thyroid, Major Depressive Disorder
Document Summary
Body position: neglect syndrome: can"t feel a part of the body, helps process movement relative to yourself, combines vision with body position. Occipital lobe: primary visual cortex, main vison area, receives information from the thalamus, processing visual input, basic image processing. Temporal lobe: primary auditory complex, gets information from thalamus, processes speech/ sound info, wemck"s area: helps decode speech, understanding of speech, recognizing objects, also helps with recognizing faces. Split brains: right and left hemispheres operate separately. Different functions of the right and left hemispheres: brain laterization is driven by testosterone: left, right: language. Spatial processing: right and left process emotions. Right-left brain mythology: no systematic differences between handedness etc. and skills in occupational field, people generally do well in professions regardless of gender handedness etc. Everything on left is processed on right, everything on right is processed on left: ask split brain patients which word they see. Somatic nervous system: sensory motor stuff, cranial nerves, spinal nerves.
