Fugue- polyphonic form popular in baroque era, in which one or more theemes are developed by imitative counterpoint. Thematic development- musical expansion of a theme by vaying its melodic outline, harmony and rhythm exposition- first section of fugue in which voice enter in turn with the subject. In sonata allegro form first section in which major thematic material is stated. Chamber music- 2 to 10 players, no conductor, team oriented, lighter in sound, nowhere to hide, all parts exposed, difficult, like a musical conversation between equals, classical era is golden age of chamber music,independence of single players. Sonata- instrumental genre in several movements for soloist or small ensemble conjunct- smooth, connected melody that moves by small intervals. Counter melody- an accompanying melody soundeed against the principle melody compound meter- meter in which each beat is subdivided into three rather than two. Transposition- shifting a piece of music to a different pitch level. Heterophony- simultaneous variation of a single melodic line.
