Document Summary

Water changes from one physical state to another through. Each change of state involves a transfer of heat (between latent heat and sensible heat types) Water molecule consists of: 2 hydrogen atoms, 1 oxygen atom. Unique way in which the hydrogen atoms attach to the oxygen atom causes one side of the water molecule to have a negative charge and the opposite side to have a positive charge. Resulting polarity of electrical charges causes water molecules to form strong molecular bonds. When water is frozen: molecules arrange themselves in a highly rigid geometric patter, causes the mass of water to expand in volume (about 9%, decrease in density, arrangement causes it to float. A model that describes the storage and movement of water between the biosphere, atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere. Amount of water vapor present in the air. Warm air holds more vapor than cold air.
