MGSC 346 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Statistical Process Control, Requirement, Total Quality Management
Document Summary
Statistical process control - constantly evaluate by monitoring process to see if it is producing goods at acceptable quality level. Sample - subset of items produced to use for inspection. Control charts - process within statistical control limits. Random - inherent in process can"t pinpoint what is causing it, natural occurrences, i. e. may not exactly finish producing product in 60 minutes. Contribute to tqm goal of continuous improvement. Classification (good v. bad, # of defects) - i. e. radio works or not. Service defect - failure to meet customer requirement. Processes w/ tendency to go out of control; harmful + costly if it goes out of control. Controls limits - upper + lower bands of a control chart. Attributes chart - p-chart proportions, c-chart. Variables chart - mean (x-bar - chart), range (r chart) Probabilities for z = 2. 00 and z = 3. 00. About equal number of points above and below centerline. P-chart - uses portion defective in sample.
