Daughter language : languages sharing a common parent language. A very remote protolanguage, spoken perhaps 50,000 years ago in africa, might have given rise to all contemporary languages. Human brain contains limited set of rules for organizing language, so all languages have a common structural basis. 2 types of contact language were created as a consequence of the european exploration & colonization of the world: Speech used for communication between people with different languages. 1st stage of the development of a language. A mother tongue of the later generations of pidgin speakers. 2nd stage in the development of a language. The world"s linguistic diversity has been cut in half in the past 500 years.
