Engaging in strategic problem-solving partnerships with the community to address longstanding or emerging problems of crime and disorder. Random patrol: having no set pattern, by chance, haphazard. Extra patrol: response in which the police pass through an area more often during a shift. Directed/aggressive/specialized patrol: uses crime statistics to plan shift and beat staffing, providing more coverage during times of peak criminal activity and in high-crime areas, designed to handle problems and situations requiring coordinated efforts. Can be accomplished on foot, automobile, motorcycle, bicycle, segway, horseback, aircraft, boat, etc: most common is foot and automobile, foot patrol officers walk a beat and responds to incidents on foot, automobile.
