The goals of all science including psychology (ex. Be able to measure and describe schizophrenia. Mmpi test (minnesota multifazing personality inventory: understanding and prediction. One of strongest predictors is the number of relatives and closeness of those relatives with schizophrenia: application and control. Scientific information: formulate a testable hypothesis, select research method and design study. Experimental research method: collect data, analyze data and draw conclusions, report findings. All of these methods yield correlational data. Tells us about the direction and strength of the relation between two variables. We have two types of correlations that are important in psychological research. Home environment of the subject; record what is going on; what they are doing, saying, etc. Accidentally prevented him from developing permanent new memories; could remember things from earlier that day; memories not consolidated. Raised as a child by a sadistic mother; constantly screaming at sybil, punishing her for imagined things, physically, mentally, and sexually abused.
