Schmid 2015: model of language, usage based, usage. Needs to be full of repetition, otherwise we don t learn, basic condition. 4 activities (sensory, cognitive, motor activities (speech organs), social (communication)) Many words, phrases, structures that repeat themselves. Able to recognize patterns, associations between forms and meanings. Able to identify types of utterances and which to use: left side: entrenchment. Routinization, reduction of words as a form of routinization (i m gonna); schematization (grammar rules, repeated patterns) Matter of connection, important for communication, recognize patterns with other people, agree with language material. Innovation (new things to serve other people s services, catches on) Co-adaptation (my mind and your mind, adapt to another person, for agreements) Deals with speech in its purely physical aspects (kreidler, 1993) Production of speech sounds: the speech process as a whole as well as the articulatory parameters of each speech sound (articulatory phonetics, biology, anatomy)
