MFE 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 48: Milling Cutter, Machine Tool, Grinding Wheel
Document Summary
Note: in this module the discussions will be about cnc machining centers but the elements apply to any nc controlled process. Examples of parts that can be machined on machining centers, using various processes such as turning, facing, milling, drilling, boring, reaming, and threading. Such parts would ordinarily require a variety of machine tools. Note that in addition to the three linear movements, the pallet can be swiveled (rotated) along two axes, allowing the machining of complex shapes. The synchronized motion of all these elements results in the ability to produce complex contours such as those found in fan blades. It is important to note that complexity in geometry is directly related to the number of axis that a cnc machine has. In this gure one of several tools to record the exact location of a machine element. The measuring disk in the top gure is an encoder.
