Duchamp, the bride stripped bare by her bachelors, even, 1915-1923. It is a work on a large piece of glass. He may have been starting the piece in 1913. The large glass was developed in the us. He thought the work was complete in his incompletion. A work that occupied the artist for 5 or more years. He superseded picasso because picasso never really abandoned the body/ still life and. Even though the bodies are implied, they are very hard to perceive and you don"t see any people stripped bare. Not the bachelors this creates uncomfort- able feelings. No single work in the entire history of painting has evoked more cant, jargon, gibberish, and jungian psycho babble. We seem to be combining these two components (that which is mechanical and that which is metaphysical) It is carefully painted and outlined in lead. Duchamp was the man and he was enthroned as an older man because he was so famous.
