Goes beyond what you can see in a friendship. Physiological drive: decision and commitment- decision short term, commitment long term. Decision (right now i want to be with this person). Commitment (i want this person in my life for a long time): single components of love: Liking- (friendship love)- the basis of friendship is intimacy. No commitment or intimacy: empty love-(work relationship, divorce ) commitment. No intimacy or passion: multiple components of love (based on combinations of single components), romantic love- (intimacy and passion) no commitment. Example: summer romance: companionate love- (intimacy and commitment) no passion. Example: grandparents, asexual relationships (has to be committed), military relationships: fatuous love- (passion and commitment) no intimacy.
