Document Summary

Unit 3 - chapter 7 - 10/10 & 10/12. Transfer of energy from light to organic molecules. What is photosynthesis? process by which the energy within light is captured & used process by which the energy within light is captured & used to synthesize carbohydrates. Occurs in autotrophs --> organisms that make organic molecules form inorganic sources. Take place in the thylakoid membrane (in the stroma, a little bit) Where light energy is harvested and converted into energy intermediates. Most less particles with specific amount of energy. Energy carried by photons can be transferred to electrons. Photon bumps into an electron & transfers the energy. Photons excite electrons on pigment molecules called chlorophyll. Can absorb light energy (has electrons that can be photo- excited) The excited electrons on chlorophyll can be harnessed to do actual work. Sometimes, with special chlorophyll molecules, the excited electron will leave the chlorophyll cell.
