We think that others are vulnerable to social influence, but that we ourselves are not. Can lead us to doubt social psychology"s findings initially. We are predisposed to form intimate interpersonal networks that are only so large. Limited by ratio of cortex to the rest of the brain. Other intelligent animals (chimps and dolphins), have smaller cortices compared to rest of brain and smaller social groups. Need-to-belong theory: we have a biologically based need for interpersonal connections. If we are isolated for too long we become lonely. 1 lasted 8 days and reported extreme anxiety, wished they had quit earlier ting ge to earlier.
