Document Summary

Very standard, systematic pathway that occurs for a reflex. A reflex is a fast involuntary sequence of actions that occur in response to a particular stimulus. Withdrawal of foot when you step on something sharp. Spinal reflexes occur without input from the brain. All nervous tissue outside the brain and spinal cord. Sensory receptors and organs (eyes, ears, etc) Includes all of the nerves in our body. Type of nerve depends on where it attaches to the peripheral nervous system. Some peripheral nerves attach to the brain while others attach to the spinal cord. Types of peripheral nerves: cranial nerves attach directly to the brain and service structures in the head and upper body. There are 12 pairs of cranial nerves: spinal nerves attach to the spinal cord and service specific regions of the body.
