BIOSC-116 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Troponin, Long-Term Memory, Myosin
Document Summary
A skill that you learn by doing, like riding a bike. Reflexive this is skill memory that has now become like second nature you do it without thinking about it at all (like the basketball player who can shoot the ball into the hoop) Explicit this is long term memory that can be verbalized. There are 2 types of explicit memory: abstract and episodic. Learning facts, like the names of the bones. Episodic event memory = remembering events. This allows you to learn some facts better (when you correlate them with events) Short term memory this is limited in time (lasts for a few seconds to a few minutes) and amount of information which can be stored (only 7 or 8 chunks of information). Long term memory unlimited in time and amount of information. It probably involves permanent changes in neurons and synapses through the production of new proteins.
