Employment is part 5 of the equality act, which consolidated the previous acts. It includes a broad definition of employment. It prohibits discrimination at all stages of employment. This includes hiring, terms, access to promotion, training and dismissal. There are certain protected characteristics defined you can claim against. Direct discrimination occurs when someone is treated less favourably due to a protected characteristic than they would otherwise be treated.
