Goal: overcome the paradox of wanting to understand human motivations by studying sel-awar humans (who are aware of being studies) Some implication of our uniquely human self-awareness. An outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters stresses the potential value and goodness of humans, emphasize common needs and seek solely rational ways of solving problems. Rose to prominence in the mid 20th century but was rooted in idea from as early as the renaissance. Focuses on realization & expression of ones capabilities and creativity. One"s conscious experience of the world- everything a person, hears, feels, thinks. Phenomenology is psychologically more important than the world itself. The basis of free will is the realization that only present experience matters. A person"s particular experience of the world (more or less, your phenomenology) Free will is achieved by choosing your construal. Gender & personality trait differences is construals.
