Three different kinds of ways that behaviour manifests- thought, emotion, behaviour. Mechanisms- differences in how people process things. Personality really has an impact on what you do. Not the only and not always the most cause of behaviour. Has an important role on what people do, say and think. Different reasons why people do what they do. Core of personality psychology is how is it relevant to the core of psychology. Personality is difficult to see when the pressure of the situation is very strong. Goal is to understand one person rather than what is generally true. Pros: complete understanding of a single individual; great for important people. Cons: subjective, not easily falsifiable; not generalizable; need a biographer. Pros: objective (can be tested); more complete understanding of more people; great for everyday people. Cons: boring (no interesting stories); difficult (need to understand stats) Psychological triad: how people think, feel, behave. Human nature- how we are like all others- nomothetic.
