Bipolar disorder occurs at same rate (1 percent) in childhood, adult, and adolescence* Mood disorders are similar in childhood and adulthood. No "childhood" mood disorders are specific to a developmental stage (as anxiety is)** Mania: children younger than age 9 seem present with more irritability and emotional swings rather than classic manic states.
